Our Approaches

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT is supported by research for treating a number of conditions including anxiety, depression, and substance use. Often, unhealthy thinking patterns interfere with positive emotions and prevent achievement of life goals. We will work as a team to modify unhealthy thinking patterns, cope with emotions, and implement life-style changes that promote wellbeing.

Strength Based

Strengths-based counseling focuses on the inherent strengths and skills that you already posses, and uses them as building blocks for future accomplishments and problem-solving.

Instead of  focusing all of our time and  attention on problems or using language that stigmatizes and labels you , a strengths-focused approach empowers you by drawing attention to the positives that already exist within and around  you.

This approach dictates that people are not defined by their difficulties, diagnosis, or symptoms. Instead you are defined by your capacity for growth and adaption.

Utilizing a strengths-based approach can be particularly useful for individuals who feel overwhelmed by the enormity of their problems. By re-framing one’s perception of the situation from focusing on everything that is wrong to one that recognizes what is working, you can begin to develop positive, realistic, and achievable goals.

This approach doesn’t mean that you ignore the problem or avoid  discussing struggles directly. What can make this approach so powerful is that you discuss obstacles within the context of drawing upon resiliency and successes that you demonstrate in other areas of your life.

When people feel empowered, they can be active participants in bringing about  constructive life  changes.
